Located southwest of the intersection at Lemay Avenue and Elizabeth Street, the central Fort Collins neighborhood of University Acres provides the convenience of Old Town Fort Collins at a lower price per square foot. The neighborhood site, originally an 122 acre experimental farm owned by Colorado State University, was sold to real estate entrepreneurs Lewis & Mae Tiley and their son Bill in 1957. The Tiley family together with Everitt Companies developed the University Acres subdivision between 1959-1973, naming the streets after former Colorado State University presidents Edwards, Ellis, Green, Lory, Morgan, and Newsom. In this neighborhood two story, split-level, and ranch style homes are all represented, most include an attached 1 or 2 car garage. University Acres’ towering trees and its large 0.2 to 0.3 acre lots add to the neighborhood’s appeal. Homes for sale in University Acres are typically listed between $200,000 and $360,000.

Adjacent to the Fossil Creek Reservoir Natural Area, Fossil Lake Ranch is a highly regarded Southeast Fort Collins neighborhood located near the intersection of Kechter Road & Zeigler Road. It offers a variety of housing options including single-family homes, estate homes, patio homes, townhomes, and loft-style condos. Developed by Everitt Companies starting in 2000, a variety of premier home builders are represented in Fossil Lake Ranch including KEM, Liberty, Stoneybrook, Stonefield, and Jamestown, among others. The neighborhood is predominately composed of large single-family homes, most with 4 to 5 bedrooms and 2,000 to 5,000 finished square feet. These homes, which sit on 0.15 to 0.3 acre lots, are typically listed between $390,000 and $700,000. The south end of Fossil Lake Ranch features estate homes on larger lots ranging from 0.3 to 3 acres. Many of the houses in this prestigious area back to green space and are typically priced between $700,000 and $1,250,000. While the neighborhood is nearly built to capacity, a few estate lots and new construction options are still available–including new construction loft-style condos which are currently available through Landmark Homes.
This Thursday, September 12th marks the kick-off for the annual New Belgium Brewing Bike-in Cinema. During this event hundreds of people gather on Thursday evenings with their blankets and lawn chairs in hand to enjoy cult-classic movies and beer on the brewery’s front lawn at 500 Linden Street. This end-of-summer tradition is a local Fort Collins favorite and not to be missed! Admission is $2 and all beer proceeds benefit Fort Collins non-profit Wolverine Farm Press–publisher of literary & arts magazine Matter Journal and quarterly newspaper Matterhorn, among others. The bike-in cinema line up this year includes Tremors (Sept 12th), Karate Kid (Sept 19th), Shut Up and Play the Hits (Sept 26th), and Step Brothers (Oct 3rd). Movies start at dusk and end well after dark, so don’t forget your bike light. Enjoy!
